In Loving Memory of Philly

Nearly 14 years ago, just one month shy of his 14th birthday, a little Labrador puppy came into our lives and changed our family forever.

It all started with a post I saw online about a litter of Labrador puppies.  I was walking out the door when my husband asked, "Where are you going?"  I told him I was going to the store, but he knew exactly what I was really doing.  He simply said, "Don't do it!"

Well, I did it.  I drove out to a house in the country where a litter of Labrador puppies was with their mama.  Among them was one little puppy who immediately caught my attention.  He was so cute, so chubby, and I just knew he was coming home with me.

We named him Philly, after the Philadelphia sports teams and the place we called home - the New Jersey / Philadelphia area.

What had started as a trip to see a puppy became nearly 14 beautiful years of unconditional love, loyalty, companionship, and friendship.  Philly quickly became so much more than a pet.  He was family.  He was part of our home, our everyday lives, and countless memories that we will cherish forever.

As it turned out, he became my husband's best friend.  We truly could not have asked for a better dog.  Philly had a way of becoming part of everything.  He was there through the ordinary days and the unforgettable ones, offering the kind of love that only a dog can give - faithful, unconditional, and without ever asking for anything in return.

We are heartbroken that Philly did not make it to his 14th birthday next month.  He held on for as long as he could, until his body simply couldn't anymore.  Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things we have ever had to do.  Our hearts are absolutely broken today. 💔🐾

Thank you, Philly, for almost 14 wonderful years.  Thank you for your unconditional love, your loyalty, your companionship, your friendship, and for every memory you gave us.

You were never just a dog.  You were our family, our constant companion, and a beloved part of our lives.  We will miss you more than words can say, and we will carry your memory - and your love - with us forever.

Run free, sweet Philly.  You were loved beyond measure, and you always will be. 🐾❤️
